Described as a timely and memorable article in The Gazette ("Old and New", 9 December 1916, p. 15), Doughty emphasized the importance of archives as a national asset, and elaborated on Canada's efforts to acquire for future generations documents related to Canada's involvement in World War I.

The University Magazine was a quarterly periodical issued by a committee for McGill University, Toronto University and Dalhousie University, from October 1907 to 1920. The magazine, financially guaranteed by Sir Andrew Mcphail, its editor, was notable for paying for its contributors.
