"The First Christmas" one of 25 poems by Arthur G. Doughty published in the collection, Rose Leaves, 1894, was a slightly revised version of the poem originally published in The Dominiojn Illistrated, 1890. Changes from the original included: 1st paragraph, 2nd line from "The birds and beasts have gone to rest," to "The birds and beasts now calmly rest;" and 4th paragraph, 2nd line from "That from the lips of angels flow?" to "These strains that from the Angels flow?", as well as, capitalization changes in the 6th paragraph, 4th line from "...the Earth and Skies" to "...the earth and skies", word with punctuation change in the 7th paragraph, 1st line from "O" to "Oh,", and punctuation change in the 7th paragraph,3rd line from "Come," to "Come!".
