Doughty, Arthur, “Introductory”, Illustrated Quebec, (the Gibraltar and tourists' Mecca of America) under French and English occupancy: the story of its famous annals; with pen pictures descriptive of the matchless beauty and quaint mediaeval characteristics of the Canadian Gibraltar; with a glance at its picturesque environs by G. Mercer Adam, Montreal: John McConniff; Desbarats & Co., engravers, printers and publishers ,1892.

One of nine titles in the McConniff series "Gem Souvenirs of the principal cities of the Dominion", Illustrated Quebec was initially published in March 1892, followed by slight revisions in 1893, and also possibly in 1895 and 1896. This review was limited to a preliminary search using LAC on-line Aurora and Voilà, which listed over 32 works with this title; there was much inconsistency in the descriptive details for each entry making it difficult to determine date of the publication, and reprint or revised versions.

In the [1892] version, "Introductory" consisting of 3 unnumbered pages is credited to Arthur Doughty on the first page immediately under the title, and is credited to A.G. Doughty, M.A. on the last page at the end of the "Introductory". Whereas in the [1893] version, The "Introductory" consisting of 4 numbered pages (pages 3-6) is credited to Arthur G. Doughty, M.A. on the first page immediately below the title; there is no additional credit given at the end of the "Introductory".

The Wilson Collection includes 3 copies of this publication: 2 printed in [1892] and 1 printed in [1893]. The Wilson Collection copies were reviewed; select images pictured above. In addition, copies of the [1982] publication held by LAC, and by Queen's University were also reviewed. Also, a copy of the [1893] publication held by Queen’s University (OCLC #932908534) was reviewed; select images are pictured above.  Some digital copies are also available through Canadiana and Internet Archive (archive.org).
