While the title pages, and “Foreword/Avant-Propos” were in English and French, this was not a bilingual publication as the rest of the book was written in English.

In the “Foreword”, A.G. Doughty explained that the current volume was inspired by the Archives series on the constitutional history of Canada published from 1907 to 1915.  Documents Relating to Currency, Exchange and Finance in Nova Scotia with prefatory documents, 1675-1758/Documents concernant La Monnaie, Le Change et Les Finances de La Nouvelle-Écosse avec des documents préliminaires, 1675-1758, had been initiated by the Board of Historical Publications, with the research carried out by Adam Shortt.  However, subsequent events including the death of Adam Shortt in 1930 and the abolishment of the Board in 1931, led to the Deputy Minister's (A.G. Doughty) taking responsibility to ensure its publication in 1933 with the assistance of V.K. Johnson and Gustave Lanctot.
